Another mid-size SUV for urban use, featuring German engineering and tuning, with a 1.4T engine and independent suspension front and rear!
In the era of gasoline-powered vehicles, German automakers have achieved a high level of expertise, whether it be in their superior sheet metal craftsmanship or their outstanding tuning of the “big three” components. German engineering stands among the top tier in the industry. Whether it be the high-end brands like Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Audi, or the more mainstream Volkswagen (Volkswagen AG), German vehicles remain the top choice for consumers when purchasing a car. As the Volkswagen Group has grown and expanded, Jetta has been spun off from Volkswagen to become an independently operated automotive brand. To strengthen its lineup of urban mid-size SUVs, the all-new Jetta VS8 is finally arriving. The new model's dimensions are similar to those of the current VS7, it is equipped with a 1.4T engine provided by the Volkswagen Group, and its chassis continues to feature German engineering. Another urban mid-size SUV, German engineering, 1.4T transverse engine, and front and rear independent suspension.
From the partial images of the Jetta VS8 released by the official Jetta, the design of the front face shows both inheritance and breakthroughs. The front features a completely new frameless grille, with the middle section composed of crisscrossing black decorative strips. The sharp front headlights are equipped with black lamp covers, integrating a through-type daytime running light and lens headlights. Coupled with the fang-shaped fog lights in the airflow channel area, this creates the exterior lighting system of the front face. The front bumper also adopts a crossover design philosophy, featuring upright airflow channels on both sides and a flattened trapezoidal air intake in the middle, along with a silver metal front lip, adding more outdoor elements. The rear has been redesigned as well, with a large rear spoiler that extends backward from the roof (which includes a horizontally placed high-mounted brake light), and the through-type taillights have a forked design at the edges. The black taillight covers prominently display the "JETTA" chrome silver English badge in the middle, offering high recognition. The rear bumper showcases a rich sense of layering through the use of various materials.
Moving to the side of the vehicle, the all-new Jetta VS8 also features a specially formulated dark green paint finish. Its body contour remains classic, echoing the design of the T-Roc L and Jetta VS7. The roofline is almost parallel to the ground, and the black B, C, and D pillars blend seamlessly with the black privacy glass throughout the vehicle. The upper edge of the windows also features black decorative strips, while the lower edge has been replaced with silver metal trim, creating a rich layered effect and a three-dimensional semi-floating roof. The new vehicle emphasizes space creation, featuring traditional-style door handles and rearview mirrors equipped with cameras. As an urban midsize SUV, the Jetta VS8 measures 4629/1851/1624mm in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 2731mm. The interior adopts a traditional 5-seat layout, equipped with fabric sofa seats, providing a more spacious and comfortable seating area compared to the Jetta VS7.
The overall layout of the interior of the Jetta VS8 is still Volkswagen's latest design, and its craftsmanship spirit can be seen in terms of materials, craftsmanship, and details. The T-shaped center console leans towards the driver's side and is equipped with Volkswagen's classic leather perforated steering wheel. The multifunctional buttons on both sides of the black piano lacquer are also more convenient to operate. Large shift paddles (optional) are also equipped on both sides. The control island area in front of the armrest box also uses Volkswagen's classic shift lever, saving more space and bringing a new driving experience. In terms of technology, the Jetta VS8 will also be equipped with a large-sized full LCD instrument panel and a 12.9-inch central touch screen, which performs very well in mobile phone interconnection. CarPlay, CarLife, and WeLink are all supported. Equipped with AR navigation and voice control, it has a richer entertainment ecosystem.
At its core, the Jetta VS8 is powered by a 1.4T transverse turbocharged engine provided by the Volkswagen Group, designated as DLE. It features the latest Otto cycle technology, delivering a maximum horsepower of 150 PS, a maximum power output of 110 kW, and a maximum torque of 250 N·m. Consistent with the current VS7 model, the transmission system is expected to continue offering a 6-speed automatic transmission. In terms of the chassis, it adopts a front MacPherson strut independent suspension + rear multi-link independent suspension structure combination. During long-distance driving, the Jetta VS8 does not feel loose, and its sense of heft and tightness has significantly improved compared to models under the Volkswagen brand.
Commentary: When it comes to Jetta, many older car enthusiasts may still think of it as an entry-level sedan under FAW-Volkswagen, but today's Jetta operates independently. The strategic rationale behind this move is to maintain the premium image of the Volkswagen brand while expanding market share. The Jetta has also grown rapidly, continuously introducing new models in the sedan and SUV segments. The arrival of the Jetta VS8 not only features a design that aligns with consumer aesthetics but also offers ample interior space, rich configurations, and cutting-edge technology and intelligence. The “three major components” remain of pure German quality. Since becoming an independent brand, Jetta has enabled the Volkswagen Group to gain a more precise understanding of market segmentation, reflecting its thoughtful global strategic planning. This aims to provide consumers with more diverse product choices and allow more consumers to experience the quality of German automobiles at a more affordable price.
