Jensen Huang: Software engineers can no longer get by with just “writing code by hand”

Nvidia Corp. CEO Jensen Huang believes that anyone can be a software engineer today, and those who refuse to embrace AI will be left behind by the times.

According to Benzinga, during an interview on the “All In Podcast” on the 23rd, Huang was asked about the possibility of AI replacing humans in the job market. In response, he stated that AI not only creates jobs but also brings about new transformations in how people work.

Huang said, “AI is the most powerful tool for technological equality in history. Everyone is now a software engineer.” He warned, “If you don't use AI, your job will be replaced by someone who does.” He added, “Software engineers can no longer survive using traditional methods; you can no longer get by just writing raw code.”

Huang emphasized that AI not only creates job opportunities but also makes everyone more productive. “In my view, AI is creating jobs. It allows us to create products that others will want to buy, driving more growth and creating more job opportunities.”

Shyam Sankar, Chief Technology Officer of Silicon Valley big data analytics firm Palantir Technologies Inc., also refuted the notion that AI will replace human jobs in the same podcast, pointing out that AI can unlock more creativity and productivity, enhancing human potential.

When asked about comments made by Dario Amodei, CEO of startup company Anthropic, regarding AI potentially replacing half of entry-level white-collar jobs within five years, Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet and Google, responded, “I respect that perspective... I think it's important to voice these concerns and engage in debate.” When discussing the impact of AI, Pichai said that thinking too far ahead “doesn't make sense,” but he also acknowledged that concerns about AI replacing jobs are indeed well-founded.

Microsoft Corp. Chief Technology Officer Kevin Scott previously predicted that by 2030, 95% of all code will be generated by AI.
